IT Courses

Archive for October, 2009

This is a real story.

It happened to a very close friend of mine.

This guy is used to deal with Unix, Linux, Windows without any IT courses and such.

He was working with machines all day long, in his local branch office,

in a far far away country.

But he was still very friendly to humans :-)

And one day, not too long a go, he got to Brainstorm to his Corporate CEO.

He got to give his Elevator Pitch for his new product idea that would

bring more revenue.

It wasn’t based on anything one learns in all the IT courses

At the end of the meeting he got a massive thank-you and appreciation, as well

as the chance to take his idea to fruition.

I asked him how he did it.

He said “Technically it was very simple, I always look around for things,

that could be improved by eliminating a problem, or a work, using

a new method or system. I was also looking for opportunities where my idea

would have the biggest leverage.

That’s how I found about this “bring your idea to the CEO” channel.

I had to discuss my idea with several people. Then I had to fill out a form.

I then waited and got approval for my idea. Then I prepared a Power Point presentation

with the exact wording of the messages I wanted to convey. I tried to look

at it, from Management prospective: ‘How can we make money, make

our customers happy and find the simplest way to do it’.

I ran several surveys, and used social media communities to validate my assumptions.

It took me several days all in all, spread during several months.

And when the meeting with the CEO was held, I read out loud my message.

Sure, he had several remarks and points to look into.

Some of them I was already aware of and some I did not.

But I could relate to the CEO’s notes and respond fluently.”

I asked him why do so few cases of such an

Information Technology Careers boost happen.

And my friend said “Well, aside from learning all those IT courses ,

I also spend a great deal of time, learning Entrepreneurship.

You know…management stuff, productivity tips,

and a bit of business development. You got to think like management thinks, to

be able and bring forward your best ideas. I really like more to learn about IT,

but a one has to do what is required, beyond what he likes. Over time, when

I started getting successful career-wise, I started to like learning about businesses”.

He said. “So I read Stephen Covey’s “7 Habit’s of highly Effective People”, and then

Dan, Ariely’s book ‘Predictably Irrational (Kindle Edition)’, about decision making

and Jay’ Abrahams’s materials, about business development, and a whole bunch more.

I got those great advisers and leaders, teach me through their books and recordings”.

Interesting…

It was so simple to go through the actions, to get his message top the top,

in his world, and yet it could not have been done, without the indirect support

of all those extraordinary minds he learned from.

And now here is even a more powerful resource,

that my friend did not have, back then, which you can use now for your advantage.

Imagine how far you could take your Information Technology Careers

getting access to Stephen Covey, Dan Ariely and

additional 52 top advisers:

IT Professional Career involves learning, and a major part is delivered on Video.

I found that using iTunes Podcasts is a very convenient way to learn.

You get tons of video lessons, news, how to stuff and more, brought Automatically

to your destop as well as to your iTouch/iPhone.

Here is a list of recent Computing Magazines based channels I picked.

This should save you some time as you listen or watch instead of read :-)

Each one of those will launch your iTunes app.

In some countries (outside USA) the iTunes store will not allow you to

sign up to the podcasts.

However I was told there are solutions in case you do not sign up to a pay for podcast

(and all those podcasts are free):

I’d be glad to get your recommendations regarding additional channels for our group.

P.S.

Talking about video, I have been playing with a nice tool that practically removes

the annoying “Buffering” pauses you get, while watching stuff on the major Video

sites, including Youtube of course. It can also speed up the iTunes videos you watch.

Remember “DAP” – Download Acceelerator?

Well the same guys now deliver a Video Accelarator program.

I enjoy it a lot – here is a link to their info

and download page: http://budurl.com/VideoAccelerator

Yours,

Jack.
